On Friendship

Just so you know, I’m doing alright
I’ve learned to lie to you in hindsight
Lest a barrier be burst

This I confess: I was all wrong
Trying to fit pieces where they did not belong
Thinking it was me, not you

Just so you know, I’m not alright
A true friend would care, consistent despite
the shadows that consort with brilliant light.

But I didn’t have it in me.
My life
is not like that…
“Nobody cares”
my father said
that’s why he
stretched the truth

She’s afraid
of the world
it’s one
big
monster.
You could easily become
part of a collage eye
a montage mouth
screaming her own
shadow thoughts
silently.

She knows
the chemical formula
to dissolve her
emotional
golem.

But does she know
the formula
for the glue
that brings it
to life?
